Summer Intensive

grew up in the desert under the blues skies of Santa Fe, New Mexico where she trained with the Santa Fe Dance Foundation and worked with The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Southwest Ballet, and the Santa Fe Opera. She earned her BFA from The Juilliard School where she studied on a 4 year, full-tuition scholarship awarded by Tomorrow’s Leaders of America for her essay about the world dancing together in harmony. Barbeito had an extensive performance career that took her to Europe, New York, and then finally to Los Angeles, where she founded BODYTRAFFIC with Tina Berkett, serving as Co-Artistic Director and Director of Education for over 13 years. Under her Co-Direction, the company toured to sold-out audiences and international acclaim at prestigious venues around the globe, as well as Cultural Ambassadors of the United States to Algeria, Israel, Jordan, and Korea. Barbeito is one of 36 teachers in the world who is certified to teach Anouk van Dijk’s groundbreaking Countertechnique. She has choreographed over 50 works for high schools, universities, competitions, regional ballet companies, and professional modern dance companies throughout the US and Canada. She was a Guest Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Full-time Visiting Professor at Loyola Marymount University, where she taught various dance-related courses from 2010 to 2021. Barbeito relocated with her family to Carmel Valley in 2021 in order to launch the Carmel Dance Festival. Barbeito is extremely enthusiastic about leading Ballare Carmel, Monterey County’s first and foremost professional dance company whose repertoire includes works by Jennifer Archibald, James Gregg, Noelle Kayser, Ihsan Rustem, and Skye Schmidt with upcoming commissions by Gianna Burright and Kelly Ashton Todd.

was born in Denver and raised in Chicago. After attending Chicago Academy for the Arts, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Juilliard School. Following graduation, Chase was a dancer with Ballet BC under the direction of Emily Molnar. He has performed works on international stages by Crystal Pite, Sharon Eyal, Merce Cunningham, Roy Assaf, and more. This spring, Chase will be a solo dancer in the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Carmen. Apart from dance, Chase is a stylist and movement director spanning multiple mediums. Most recently, he assisted movement direction for the critically-praised Wiederhoeft show at NYFW. Chase is excited to be debuting a work commissioned by Montréal based circus performer Madi Ward for her digital art gallery Amphibious Duality. Chase was lucky to collaborate with Barbadian-Canadian multifaceted artist Alex Gibson, together creating an atmospheric exploration of sensory pleasure. Chase is based out of New York City and free-lances with companies like PARA.MAR Dance Theatre in Chicago, Post:ballet in San Francisco, and Ballare Carmel in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Performance artist JAVON “Ja’Moon” JONES (he/him) discovered his love for movement in his hometown of Detroit, MI. Following his graduation from Cass Technical High School he went on to train, traditionally, at The Juilliard School. During his college tenure “Ja’Moon” has performed works by some of the leading names in the concert dance community; Crystal Pite, Jose Limon, Bill T Jones and more. “Ja’Moon” took a leave from his formal studies to join in the thoughtfulness of A.I.M. by Kyle Abraham. He has had the privilege to dance works that have allowed him to move audiences from stages at The Joyce Theater, The Kennedy Center, The Peter J. Sharp, and Ralph Freud Playhouse. “Ja’Moon” is developing his own sacred illustrations as an independent performance artist while also continuing to expand through his ventures as a bi-coastal freelance artist. He is currently a cast member of Sleep No More in New York City and is a guest artist Ballare Carmel in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
